How many shoes do you have?

One random day at home, Gerd noticed that I had shoes lying around practically everywhere and casually asked me how many I had. To be honest, I had no idea... So I got to counting.

The conclusion? Right now, I have 106 pairs of shoes, some of which have never been used and some of which were only used once and some of which I don't even remember buying. How crazy is that?

I have always been fascinated by Imelda Marcos and her 1060 pairs of shoes. While that isn't necessarily my goal in life, I find myself drawn to shoes every step of the way. Is this a sickness? Flawless: Guaranteed Hygienic!

I love getting facials as much as any other woman out there. I've actually already tried quite a few skin clinics so far - none of which I've gotten super attached to, though - and I used to think that they were all pretty much the same: you go in; you get ushered into a dimly lit, slightly crampy room; you go through a bit of pain in silence; and then you leave.

Although movies are the culprits behind my unrealistic expectations of relationships and life; they have always been and always will be my only true love.

Out of all of the movies I have ever seen, though, nothing tops "American History X". Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I grew up in Germany. Maybe I'm just more attuned to violence than anything else. Or maybe it's just coz Edward Norton looks so darned sexy without hair and with tattoos. I don't know. But "American History X" is my favorite movie of all time.

There's one particular quote in it that I'd like to share with you right now:

"Hate is baggage.

Life's too short to be pissed off all the time."

If you know me at all, you should know that I spend 99.9% of my time being angry at the world. There isn't anyone or anything that I don't hate. Name something - anything - and I will find fault in it somehow. I blame it on my mother's genes (she's the angriest person I know), but that quote reminds me to enjoy life every once in a while.

Yes, people are assholes. Yes, no one can do anything right. Yes, the weather is uncooperative. Yes, my life sucks on certain levels. Yes, I haven't had sex in so long that I'm practically a virgin again. Yes, God is doing all of these things on purpose to test my patience. But what I keep forgetting is that I should be in control of how I react to all of these things.

I don't think any amount of reminders will ever rid me of my patience, but you know, baby steps are better than standing still. :)

Fortunately, as long as I've got good food in my belly and blonde (in the brain, not literally) friends by my side, the world seems less asshole-y overall. :p
